A total of 127 cars came to compete on the first night including 24 Sprint Cars,

AMSOIL Speedway Northern Nationals Gets a Face Lift
The 24th Annual Rick Gondik Law Offices Northern Nationals at AMSOIL Speedway in Superior, WI will be the recipient of a face lift this year. The traditional Friday night lineup of IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints, WISSOTA Super Stocks and Midwest Mods, coupled with Saturday nights WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds and Pure Stocks has been changed.
This year Friday night will consist of the IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints, WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds. Saturday night’s program will be adding the WISSOTA Late Models and Pure Stocks, while keeping the Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds for a second show.
AMSOIL Speedway board member Joe Stariha says “This is something we thought about last year, but the timing wasn’t right. We are trying to make the Northern Nationals more of an event than it already is. By having two complete shows for the three classes we will have more drivers and fans staying at the track and in the area over the weekend. This also will help us get WISSOTA national point runners looking for two shows to enhance their national points as the race year is winding down.” Stariha goes on to add, “We will be paying out over $75,000 for the two day event and look forward to showing the fans a great race weekend, including a bunch of giveaways for the kids and a DJ on Friday night after the races.”
Racing will get underway on Friday September 7th with hot laps at 6pm and racing at 6:30 pm. Saturday September 8th hot laps will be at 5:30pm and racing will start at 6pm, with Sunday September 9th being reserved for a rain date. Ticket prices are $25 for Friday night and $20 for Saturday, otherwise you can buy a two day admission for $40. As always at AMSOIL Speedway, children 12 and under are free. By Jerry O'Brien Tuesday August 14
It appeared that Chris Olson from Hibbing, MN was going to wrap up his first
career Late Model feature Tuesday night at AMSOIL Speedway during the head of
the Lakes Fair races. Olson made a slick move at the beginning of the 20 lap
feature and took the lead off the second turn, a lead he would hold until the very
last lap. Olson led Jeff Provinzino, Joey Ogston, Darrell Nelson and Zach
Wohlers. Five laps into the race with Olson widening his lead, Pat Doar and Jake
Redetzke made their way into the top six. Nelson over hauled Provinzino for
second by the half way point and closed up on Olson. With six laps to go Nelson
took a peek to the inside of Olson and drew alongside. It appeared that Olson
would hold Nelson off, but Nelson would have none of that and got by during the
final circuit to take his second win of the season. Nelson's win was the first repeat
Late Model feature winner in a year at the speedway. Doar, Redetzke and
Provinzino rounded out the top five.
