Track Info

After qualifying heats and a B Feature for the late Models were completed, feature action
began with 15 laps for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Justin Bassa and David Simpson took
off from the front row with Bassa securing the early lead. On the move in the early going was
Skeeter Estey who had started ninth and was headed to the front. With six laps recorded the first
caution flag flew when a multi car incident in turn one occurred including Mack Estey and Ross
Furhman who had been battling for fifth. The restart saw Skeeter Estey make a charge and grab
the point with nine laps left and race out to a big lead. Estey kept the 37 out front to the
checkered flag for his third feature win of the season. Cody Wolkowski who had started tenth
raced his way into second at the checkered flag, good enough to give him the 2013 Midwest
Modified track championship. Jake Gondik, Dan kingsley and Bassa rounded out the top five.
Next up it was 20 laps for the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Andy Grymala took the lead from the
pole and held it through three caution flags to take his first feature win of the season at the
speedway. Grymala led while the players behind him changed as point contenders battled for the
crown. Defending champion Scott Lawrence suffered a flat left rear and had to restart at the rear.
He was able to make it up to seventh at the finish but was short of defending his title. Joe Oliver
ran as high as second but ended up sixth also coming up short of the track title. When all was
said and done, Curt Myers' fifth place finish was enough to give him the points championship by
two points driving Don Koivisto's #33. The top five finishers were Grymala, Andy davey, Dave
Flynn, and Myers.
Then it was show time with 40 laps for the ground pounding WISSOTA Late Models. Darrell
Nelson started from the outside of the front row and got a big jump on the field racing away by
several car lengths over pole sitter John Kaanta. Chad Mahder, making a rare series appearance
was third ahead of 2012 track champion Tim McMann and Jeff Provinzino. A debris caution call
with ten laps in the books wiped out Nelson's big lead. Nelson still led over Kaanta and Mahder
but Kyle Peterlin had secured fourth ahead of Provinzino. The first try at the restart failed when
several cars tangled in the first turn. On the next try, Nelson was again "Off to the races" as he
drove away from the field. Charging from the 11th starting spot was Steve Laursen who made his
way into the top five. The half way mark was quickly reached with Nelson lapping back markers.
The order stood at Nelson, Mahder, Provinzino, Laursen, McMann, Kaanta and Pat Doar.
Provinzino made a charge for second while Nelson was in another zip code lapping back
markers. Provinzino took over second and then another caution for debris brought him to
Nelson's bumper. With eight laps remaining the caution flag flew for the third time, this time
with at least four cars involved. Nelson was a "Sitting duck" for Mahder who had recaptured
second. Mahder was able to get past Nelson after the restart and pull away for his first ever
Challenge Series feature win. Nelson, Provinzino, Laursen and Brady Smith finished in the top
five. Nelson's finish enabled him to win the Late Model track championship at the speedway.
Nelson, as he has had to do much of his career, got out of the Late Model and into his
Modified for the 20 lap feature. He would start 19th of 19 cars as he had a rare DNF in his heat.
The event did not start well as there were two caution flags before a lap could be completed. Rick
Cannata raced to the lead from the pole and led much of the early going but Deven VanHouse
was on the move from his seventh starting spot. The third caution flag for a John Carpenter spin.
The restart did not go well as Jody Bellefeuille spun in turn four bringing out the fourth caution
flag. Cannata was tough out front but was in a battle with Al Uotinen and VanHouse as the mid
point was reached. Uotinen edged into the lead off turn two with seven laps remaining and
started to extend his lead but the fifth and final caution flag flew when Carpenter backed his car
up on the first turn wall. The restart saw VanHouse challenge Uotinen for the lead and go on to
take the win. Uotinen, Cannata, Rick Rivord and nelson rounded out the top five. Nelson's finish
gave him the 2013 track championship in the Modifieds also. Uotinen once again finished every
feature lap and his record total now stands at 690 consecutive feature laps completed.
The evening's finale was 15 laps for the Pure stocks. It took Mike Blevins until the half way
mark to take over the lead. Prior to that there had been two caution flags as well as a red flag for
a roll over by Gavin Campbell in turn three. The car was righted and he was able to continue for
a few more laps. Despite another couple of caution flags, Blevins was able to run away and hide
for his seventh feature win at the speedway good enough for the track championship. Matt
Hammitt, Ryan Savoy, Gary Campbell and Ryan Madsen finished in the top five.
